Bronze Family Courses
Is a series of swim instruction to prepare participants for an aquatic leadership or lifeguard role.
Bronze Star (ages 10-13)
Bronze Star is designed to deliver high-performance training for skilled children between the ages of 10-13. The first level of our Bronze medal family, Bronze Star is excellent preparation for success in Bronze Medallion.

Bronze Medallion (ages 13+)
Bronze Medallion teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education — judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness.
Rescuers learn tows, carries and release methods in preparation for challenging rescues of increased risk. Lifesavers learn to respond to increasingly complex resuscitation situations involving CPR, conscious and unconscious victims with an obstructed airway. Lifesavers develop stroke efficiency and endurance in a timed swim.

Bronze Cross (Age 14+)
Bronze Cross is designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training including an introduction to safe supervision in aquatic facilities.
Bronze Cross teaches the difference between lifesaving and lifeguarding, the principles of emergency procedures and teamwork. Lifesavers learn how to rescue a spinal-injured victim and a pulseless victim.
Bronze Cross is the prerequisite award for all advanced training programs in lifesaving, lifeguarding and leadership.

National Lifeguard Course/AEC (age 16+)
Must have current Bronze Cross . This course is designed to provide the participants with the knowledge and skills needed to be a lifeguard. It presents information on the basic skills and knowledge lifeguards need. For more information contact Aquatics Department.

Adult Swim Lessons
For adults wishing to improve their swimming skills. Learn and improve strokes and learn lifesaving techniques. Participants should be comfortable swimming in the deep end. Group instruction only.
Adults Scared Stiff
Scared to put your face in the water and take your feet off the bottom? Join other adults who are in the same “boat” and get over your fear of swimming with this supportive group.

Youth Swim Lessons

Our youth swim lessons use a progressive teaching method that enables participants to develop life-long skills that can help them stay healthy, When your child has mastered one level, they’re ready for the next. Each lesson encourages your child to feel good about themselves and what they’ve learned. Our progressive approach allows children to proceed to achieve their personal best.
Learn to Swim Program Program runs all year
For ages 6 and up
The YMCA Learn to Swim program is a 4 level instructional program that introduces a series of easy to learn skills to the non-swimmer. Each of the skill levels builds upon the preceding level. Successful completion of the four level progressions indicates that the learner is capable of performing a variety of skills in shallow and deep water, including the front and back crawl stroke.
OTTER
This is the beginning level for the school age children. It gets children acquainted with the pool, the use of flotation devices, and front & back floating. By the end of this level, they should know the front and back floats and glides in the shallow end.
SEAL
Individuals will be introduced to the deep end of the pool. Floats and Glides, breath control for Front & Back Crawls.
DOLPHIN
Emphasis on arm, leg and head action, endurance.
SWIMMER
Emphasis on form & movement through water, stream-lined body position.
Star Program Program runs all year
This program introduces the swimmer to a wide variety of swimming and water activity skills. For the purpose of developing individuals, the Star Program improves swimming ability, furthers water sport and safety skills and develops endurance and new strokes.
STAR 1
At this level, students work to perform the front and back crawl stroke, introduction to elementary back crawl. Proficient in Front & Back Crawl. Introduction to Elementary Back Crawl.
Skills: unconscious victim, ladder approach and primary assessment.
STAR 2
Elementary Back standard at advanced level.
Skills: Lifesaving kicks, surface dives.
STAR 3
Continue working on Front/Back/Elementary Crawl. Introduction to Breast Stroke.
Skills: Eggbeater, weak/non-swimmer recognition.
STAR 4
Continue working on Front/Back/Elementary Crawls and Breast Stroke. Introduction to Side Stroke.
Skills: Rescue breathing, recognizing/treating conscious victim with obstructed airway.
STAR 5
Emphasis on advanced standard of Front/Back/Elementary Crawls, Breast Stroke, Side Stroke. Introduction to Butterfly.
Skills: Review previously learned skills.
STAR 6
Advanced standard on all previously learned strokes.
Group Swim Instruction
Take place with people of a similar ability level with a maximum of six students. Minimum of 3 participants per level for classes to run classes.
Private Swim Lessons
This is for people who are not ready to be in group lessons or who want the attention of one instructor.
Semi- Private Lessons
Is designed for two people of the same skill level to work with one instructor.

Children Swim Lessons

L’il Dippers (infants to 5 years of age)
Program runs from September to June
Is a water activity program designed for infants to children 5 years of age. The goal is to familiarize children to movement in a water environment, develop confidence and introduce basic movement skills. The program also provides a bonding opportunity between the child and adult. Classes are designed to allow the child to have fun in the water, while the parent guides him or her to learn aquatic skills while introducing the adult to basic water safety. Adult accompaniment required in locker rooms & the pool.
SPLASHER
Adult/ Child ages Infant – 18 months
Introduces parents and child to a positive aquatic environment where adult and child can have fun in the water together. Play and a sense of security is very important.
BUBBLER
Adult/ Child ages 18 months – 3 years
The child is more familiar with the pool environment and with the instructor(s). He/she will begin to play with other children and learn some of the pool safety rules. Play and positive reinforcement are very important
BOBBER
Adult/ Child ages 3 – 5 years
Teaches child to explore the aquatic environment and to be active in group situations. Life jackets, lessening of air in water wings is introduced. The child learns how to jump from pool deck into the water. Play and positive reinforcement are very important.
FLOATER
Adult/Child ages 3 – 5 years
Children begin moving toward water independence. Basic swimming techniques and submersion are introduced. Air in water wings is further decreased. Children can move around the pool independently with or without water wings deflated. Blowing bubbles, putting face in water and submerging become more frequent. Play and positive reinforcement are very important.
GLIDER
Adult/ Child ages 3 – 5 Years
Breath control is introduced. Water wings are used occasionally (if at all). Children learn through reinforced repetition. Skills such as front and back floats are introduced. The child should be comfortable attempting these skills.
DIVER
Adult/ Child ages 3 – 5 Years
No water wings are used. Child is able to submerge and blow bubbles. Children will require assistance getting to surface as he/she tires easily. Swimming is done primarily under water and the child will be taking in more water as he/she learns how to inhale prior to submerging. The child has more confidence and is aware of his/her limitations. Play and positive reinforcement are very important.
SURFER
Children ages 3 –5 Years
The program is designed for the advanced pre-school swimmer. It enhances swim techniques and improves endurance. The child can jump from pool side and swim with little to no assistance. The child swims under water with little to no assistance. The child will need assistance only occasionally. Attention span is limited. Play and positive reinforcement are very important
